Year 7 and 8 Learning

Years 7 and 8 students at Mount Aspiring College are placed into homeroom classes of mixed ability. The classes are single year level classes.

The students are taught Maths, English, Science and Social Science in an integrated way mostly by their homeroom teacher.  Learning is delivered in a range of contexts making specific reference to deeper levels of thinking and relating specific skills and knowledge to bigger ‘concepts’ of learning which allow for a classroom programme where learning is authentic, student-driven and innovative.

Years 7 and 8 students are taught by specialist subject teachers for module courses and Physical Education and Health.

Years 7 and 8 modules

In Year 7 and 8 students participate in module courses which run for a term. Students will do two modules of two hours each per week, totalling four hours of modules each week. Students will start two new modules each term. Module courses are: Food and Nutrition, Materials Technology, Spanish, Computing, Music, Art, Performance and Māori.

Indicative costs

For all indicative course costs please see the course costs page.

Years 7 and 8 students attend camp each year and there will be additional costs for this. There may be charges for additional consumable resources,  particularly in the modules. The costs are invoiced when the student uses these in a module.
