Level 1 Computing (L1COM)


Term 1: Electronics

You will learn about electronic interfacing by constructing a microprocessor controlled system. There will be two assessments; a practical and a theory showing understanding

Term 2: Programming

You will learn basic programming concepts by planning and creating Python programs.

Term 3: Web and media

You will learn about HTML / CSS and Photoshop along with investigating a range of media and file types. There is one assessment; construct a web page

Term 4: External

You will apply knowledge learnt throughout the course to write a report with evidence to support the external portfolio

What will I learn?

  • You will learn to write computer programs

  • You will develop electronic skills and problem solving strategies.

  • You will develop photoshop skills and learn to integrate these in the web.

What should I have done already?

There are no pre-requisites for this course.

External assessments will be a written portfolio.


Assessment regulations

There will usually not be an opportunity for reassessment.

    • There is no reassessment opportunity for students who do not hand work in on time.

    • Each unit will have a deadline and you will be given these closer to the start of each topic. Deadlines, obviously must be met.

Assessment work completed must be your own work.
