Assessment regulations
The assessment tasks in this course involve the use of machinery and power tools such as the lathe, bandsaw and beltsander.
Every student in this course will be required to sign a contract regarding the use of the school workshop and the tools and equipment. Breaking the contract will result in removal from the class.
Every standard in this course contains written tasks to be completed. Students who are entitled to reader/writer assistance need to draw this to the attention of the teacher at the beginning of the school year so that assistance can be arranged well before the deadlines of the assessment.
Due dates will be advised by your teacher and are not negotiable. Incomplete work will not be assessed subject to the school NCEA policy.
Where does this course lead?
Students who have had success in this course can go on to consider apprenticeships in a variety of trades such as: building, construction, plumbing, drainlaying, roofing, gasfitting, painting and decorating, infrastructure, flooring and joinery. The programme also provides a good base for students who would like to enter the other related areas of the construction industry such as architecture, quantity surveying and estimating.
This course also leads onto Level 3 Woodwork and/or the Level 3 Technology course.
