Level 1 Te Ao Haka (L1TAH)

Overview

This is a full-year course and will explore the significance of narratives (he taonga tuku iho) as a catalyst for context and composition. Te Ao Haka will incorporate the key elements and features that are uniquely Māori and express these through performance.

What will I learn?

    • Explore various local dialects - in movement, style, language, and content

    • Narratives and how they connect to te ao Māori through whakapapa

    • Identify the unique tikanga and reo features of Te Ao Haka, and begin to use them in practice

    • Understand the relationship between performance and community

    • Identify components, elements, and features of performance through observation
