Level 2 Manaakitanga Māori (L2MKM)

Overview

This full-year, practical course will expose students to the importance of manaakitanga in te ao Māori. Throughout this course, students will recognise the continued exercising of rangatiratanga, as well as the characteristics of manaakitanga and manaaki tangata. The demand for excellence to uphold one’s mana by upholding the mana of all guests (and the mana of the marae itself) is one of the basic principles underpinning manaaki.

What will I learn?

    • Describe manaaki in terms of the interactions between the tangata whenua and manuhiri in a marae wharekai

    • Describe the tasks and responsibilities of ringawera in a marae wharekai

    • Prepare and provide kai service, as part of a team and under supervision, for manuhiri

    • Prepare, cook, and present dishes for manuhiri
