Year 9 Drama (9DRA)
Overview
In Year 9, you will draw upon the foundations laid in Year 7 and 8 Drama.
We take the values from the school vision statement “courage” and “compassion” and apply them in all we do in drama. Exploration in performance gives akonga the courage to communicate and demonstrate effectively for our kaiako and peers. Compassion underpins all dramatic exploration; through supporting and encouraging each other to perform, and through exploration of the lives of others through dramatic contexts we develop empathy.
We will learn the conventions of a specific theatrical style (form) and discover how to create effective characters (role). In the 2023 course the theatre form is Victorian Melodrama. By working with others in small and large groups you will develop communication and performance skills which can be transferred to other learning areas.
