Level 1 Numeracy
(L1NUM) - Phase 5
I orea te tuatara ka patu ki waho
A problem is solved by continuing to find solutions
Overview
Te whakatere ara me te whakawhanake kahawhiri hei tautoko i te tāraitanga o āpōpō
Navigating pathways and developing agency to help shape the future
This course builds on the skills learnt in previous years by applying strategies from all areas of the curriculum to solve problems. There is a focus on developing mathematical skills and knowledge through 'Understanding', 'Knowing That' and 'Knowing How To', and 'Doing' throughout the year.
This course allows students to focus on two internal Achievement Standards worth 10 credits and support students who may still need to achieve the NCEA Numeracy co-requisite.
Problem Solving, developing logic and reasoning, and communication of mathematical ideas will be part of all content areas, while weaving Mātauranga Māori throughout.
What should I have done already?
There are no entry requirements for this course - you will be directed into a course by your teacher and the Head of Learning Area based on your performance in Year 10.
COURSE OUTLINE
Assessment

AS91945 Use mathematical methods to explore problems that relate to Aotearoa New Zealand or the Pacific, will have an assessment after all teaching has occurred around: Number, Algebra, Measurement and Space.
AS91944 Explore data using a statistical inquiry process, will have an assessment after all of the teaching has occurred around: Statistics and Probability.
Authenticity and Appeals
These issues are dealt with by the college’s assessment procedures. Read your NCEA Student Handbook for details.
