Level 2 Mechanical Engineering (L2MEC)

Overview

This course enables you to build on the basic metal working skills learned in Level 1 Mechanical Engineering. Engineering mathematics, engineering drawing and mechanics also form part of this course.You will complete two projects:-

    • machine hammer

    • rocket stove

What will I learn?

You will develop the knowledge of materials and develop the skills needed to use the tools and equipment to complete a project to a high standard.

What should I have done already?

You must have successfully completed Level 1 Mechanical Engineering in order to have the skills needed for this course. Or at the discretion of the Head of Technology.

Assessment regulations

Every student in this course will be required to sign a contract regarding the use of the school workshop and the tools and equipment. Breaking the contract will result in removal from the class.

Every standard in this course contains written tasks to be completed. Students who are entitled to reader/writer assistance need to draw this to the attention of the teacher at the beginning of the school year so that assistance can be arranged well before the deadlines of the assessment.

Due dates will be advised by your teacher and are not negotiable. Incomplete work will not be assessed subject to the school NCEA policy.

Metalworking is dirty work

You are responsible for protecting your clothing. A dust coat or overalls are recommended.

Where does this course lead?

This course leads onto the Level 3 Technology course or onto tertiary training or an apprenticeship program and into the workforce with many highly sought after practical skills.
